The idea of one of our children going missing is unthinkable. So when our community first heard about the 14-year-old Canyon Country teen boy who had disappeared, our members banned together on Facebook to get the message out -- fast. It doesn't take a news report for people to realize that during such a critical time, we need to act immediately, sometimes it's a matter of life and death. While the location of the boys' disappearance was uncertain, and debated, at the time, it was the community of the Santa Clarita who didn't let that stop them from doing everything possible to reunite Cody Commons with his mom and dad.
We are happy to say that Friday afternoon at 3:45 PM, Cody returned safely with his family.
Jesse Commons, Cody's father, reached out to SCVMomsBlog.com this evening, sharing his feelings about his family's "heart wrenching" 48 hours. "When I tacked up the missing pic on the first tree, I fell apart," Jesse said. "That was one bad feeling." But it was the outpouring of support the community showered on his family that moved him. "I can't believe the great help we got." Jesse expressed that it was because he was able to reach out to the online community that he was able to find his son urging others, "Do not worry about what people think about you and do everything to get your kid back."
But what happened to Cody? Jesse reveals his son actually went to an unknown friend's house. "He basically ran away. The other parents let him spend the night and never tried to contact us." But when he talks about the lessons he and his family have learned he admits, "There's not any perfect parent…we think we are doing the right thing and look what happens. I think all parents need to personally talk to other parents before letting [their kids] spend the night."
And through it all, Jesse chooses to stop and recognize the positive in what the past two days created for his family. "Cody is in kind of awe. He did learn a lot from this. The point is that we live in a great community and I have my son back. Thanks out to SCV Moms. You are very great for our community!"
