Ever since I turned 39, I'm been very interested in trying out Botox and some fillers. I feel like over the past few years, my face has aged about two decades. Sure, I could accept (even celebrate) my face, it is the window into my life's experiences. But three kids, some major surgeries under my belt (and bra), being stripped of hormones and the stress that comes along with everyday life has made me feel like I look more like 59 than 39.
But I'm not sure I'm ready for it.
What I was eager to do, is get a consultation from a respected and trusted doctor. I called Dr. Ingber at
Dermacure Valencia.
They're the #1 physician owned and operated laser skin care center in the SCV and one of our fabulous sponsors so where to go was a no-brainer. Dr. Ingber looked at my face and explained a couple of the options he could do -- a little Botox here, a little filler for what I like to call my "Fred Flintstone jaw." It was a very comfortable conversation, I never felt pressured or looked at like potential business. It was when Dr. Ingber actually suggested that I look at myself and appreciate my face that I knew that I had come to the right place.
I didn't do Botox or anything else that day. But I did get an education on all the products and services Dermacure Valencia offers (and a $300 treatment to give away on SCVMomsBlog.com!) I loved how the whole staff there believes in what they do. They have such a great reputation that Shannon, the office manager, actually started working there after being a long-time patient. She revealed that her skin was a lot like mine, freckles and sun damage from top to bottom. She shared a product with me to use on my skin to help lighten the dark spots and create an overall glow and sent me on my way with a sample of tinted sunscreen.
A couple of weeks later, I decided to go back. But this time, I wasn't looking for the Botox, I was interested in finding something that could help even out the brown spots on my face and get rid of the redness (AKA my "Ted Kennedy nose") that makes me look like I have a cold 24/7. Since I had a gift certificate from a mom mixer goodie bag, I decided on the Limelight Facial
(check out other patients' before and afters). After about 30 minutes with numbing cream on my face, Dr. Ingber began. He explained the entire process, his goals of helping with the brown spots and redness and what I need to protect my face after wards. He even called me the very next day to see how I was feeling and how my face was responding to the treatment.
I am amazed.
My skin has already improved dramatically after one treatment and I can't wait to go back. While three or four treatments is sometimes recommended, many patients do two and are very satisfied. And the price per treatment is comparable to getting a regular spa facial. I'll definitely share my before and after pics when I'm done so stay tuned for those!
And maybe someday, I'll be ready for that Botox.
